What the heck are you talking about, you may be saying right now.  Let me explain.

You know on Twitter, when you type the @ symbol succeeded by someone’s Twitter name, and the final text ends up making the name an active hyperlink back to their Twitter page?  That’s that I’m talking about.  Now, on Facebook Fan Pages, when you post a status update and type the @ symbol, a box appears below the text entry area that will begin prepopulating suggestions based on pages that you have labeled as a favorite for that page and your personal friends.  This is something that has been available  in the status updates on personal profiles for some time, but now that it’s here for Fan pages, the marketing implications are outstanding!

Social Media for Marketing? Eh, why not.

Ahh, that legendary and never needed but still always done, first post.  I actually considered not even noting that there was a “first post”, but I thought – rubbish!  There has to be a “first post”.  With all the blogs I’ve started, a few of them turning into something, but most falling by the way side after a time, many would think it just silly to have a post that introduces the concept behind the blog.  But then again, who am I to interrupt tradition.

So, why am I blogging about marketing using social media if I have other blogs that have not been successful?  Well, my friend, not everything is successful in the same amount of time.  Passions come and passions go.  People change.  Right now I have a passion for social media.  I enjoy using it as a marketing tool because it is personal.  Even on the grandest scale you can get to know people.  And that’s cool.  So, whether this blog turns into “something” or not, the traditional “first post” must happen, so here we go.
